Sorry ah, a bit delayed response, but this is important news for NUS students

The Japanese food at NUS Arts canteen used to be quite all right. One of my preference when eating at Arts actually. But yesterday I had the Teriyaki Chicken and Salmon combo, and it's KENA SAI. There's no other words for it, honestly.

The miso soup tastes strange. I didn't know you can actually go wrong with miso soup, but apparently life sucks, things liddat does happen. The miso soup doesn't have the usual saltish-sweet taste to it. Instead it tastes rather bland, and leaves a bitter after-taste. Very, very bad. Like stale water.

Then the teriyaki salmon. I would advise not to order salmon dishes anywhere unless you are sure that it's a quality restaurant that serves fresh salmon, because not-fresh salmon is not good. Makes me want to puke, but I pay money already, so I die also shove the salmon down my throat, all the while thinking of the benefits of Omega 3.

The teriyaki chicken is all right, but the sauce! Hmm, somehow tastes different from usual. A little too salty such that it leaves a bitter after-taste, if you know what I'm saying.

Then the fruit salad! Last time their vegetable salad I like very much one. One reason why I favour the Japanese food stall even though their food ain't all that fantastic is that they give healthy serving of food. Got salad, got fruit, got rice, got meat. Healthy dining I like. But the fruit salad, the apples hor, not crunchy one. SOGGY. And then there are some unidentifiable but hopefully edible elements in the salad, and I tried hard not to think about it.

All in all, bad lunch food. Made me feel queasy the rest of the time.

Okay, dinner. The Coffee Club ah. Open menu so many 'not available' sticker sticking all over the place. They think menu sticker book, issit? Haiyo. Difficult time making choices like everyone else, and I had the bad-lunch-stomach to deal with on top of it. The only thing that made up for it is the ambience and seats at the restaurant. Comfy and I like the view out of the glass windows. Other than that, service was bad. They didn't fill our glasses, and when asked to, took an unecessarily long time. Getting the crew attention also very difficult. If you are the impatient type, may possibly start frothing at the mouth, so don't say I didn't warn you.

My dinner pick was Bangers and Mashes. The kind of food that couldn't go wrong ah. Sausages and mash potato woh. Quite ready-made food. But Karen say first, this type of dinner not good for health, also not nutritious. Because sausages are processed-food, got chemicals, don't eat too much.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the dinner. There are three different types of saussages served, and while it's not within my expertise to tell you which three types exactly, I can at the very least tell you that one oozes cheese. Very creamy, and tastes well with the sausage meat. But I think three sausages a bit too much, and I got a bit sick of the saltish-taste of sausages by the time I reached the third piece. The mash potatoes were okay. Wished they served it with salad though. It would help to neutralise the heavy taste of the sausages.

Speaking of salad, the ones they served to Ghim and Ting hor, damn nice leh! I think it's the best salad dressing I've ever tasted -- sweet, tangy, and light. *thumbs up* I might just go back for the salad.

And with that, we've come to the end of Karen's first food review. Till next time. Thank you for your attention.
